OFFICIAL DECLARATION OF WINNERS FOR THE 10th JSFF SHORT FILM SELECTION

Updated: Nov 15, 2023

BEST SHORT

THE OLD YOUNG CROW Director: Liam LoPinto

JURY STATEMENT

With its outstanding art direction, combining live action and animation, alongside a moving screenplay and a talented lead actor, THE OLD YOUNG CROW was an obvious choice for the jury to make it the recipient of the award for the overall best short film. FLORIAN HÖHR

BEST SERBIAN SHORT LIFE AFTER DEATH Director: Ognjen Petkovic

JURY STATEMENT

A compelling film has the power to convey a myriad of emotions, from pain to joy, solely through visuals, even in the absence of sound or dialogue. 'LIFE AFTER DEATH' excels in this aspect, leaving me intrigued about the fate of each character. The perspective of the boy adds an interesting layer, evoking poignant emotions, which, as a Japanese viewer, resonated deeply with me.

TAKESHI SONE

BEST JAPANESE SHORT MOON NIGHT Director: Manaka Nagai

JURY STATEMENT

Processing tender and raw feelings in a gently phantasmagorical fashion, this film communicates its world through carefully considered details of the leftovers of a life. For these reasons, this jury awards the film Moon Night with the Best Japanese Short award. Igor Stanojevic, Masa Sarovic
