Japanese – Serbian film festival will premiere for the first time in the city of Novi Sad, the European Capital of Culture (ECoC) in the year 2022. We believe this link will bring a new layer to the festival and greater reach to all participants and filmmakers.
The European Capital of Culture was established to emphasise the cultural richness and diversity, strengthen bonds and connect people from different European countries, but also learn about other cultures from other continents while promoting mutual understanding and strengthening the sense of Europeanness.
The most important legacy of the project is to put culture in the very centre of social development and redefine culture as a key for economic development based on knowledge, innovation and creativity.
Many capitals of culture took the opportunity to develop cultural infrastructure during and after the project, provide wider access to culture, improve the image of a city, develop the tourism economy and strengthen cultural and creative industries.
Japanese – Serbian Film Festival (JSFF) will be part of the program category "Other? Europe". This category refers to the "culture of the different". By re-examining the dominant values in European culture and art, we come to the discovery of different, alternative, marginalized, minority, and rebellious expressions.
